focus tracks

holy water (agri y dulce)

folk / soul / gospel
D major · 105 BPM · haunting · bittersweet · nostalgic

Two versions of one song, bookending the album. “agri” tells the bitter stories of those caught between two cultures, in a society that doesn’t value them. “dulce” contrasts that with the ones who somehow made it through. Both end on the same request, “holy water”: sometimes a blessing, sometimes a shot of mezcal, sometimes a dance in the rain.

northside with you

indie / funk / soul
C♯ major · 111 BPM · upbeat · celebratory

Cruising to Denver’s Northside with his dad, past his grandmother’s house, the liquor store, and his uncle’s bar, all bought up and knocked down by gentrification. It’s bedroom funk with a talkbox, and it closes on classic funk horns and the call to “play it loud so they know we’re still here.”

onesimo

electronic / cinematic
A major · 119 BPM · nostalgic · haunting

A portrait of “Tío Valo” (Onésimo), who grew up as a farm laborer in Alamosa, Colorado. Spanish was his first language, and he never learned to read. When he came to live with the family in his old age, he became the grandfather figure Gio was closest to. The song remembers the quiet joy of a man who “loved in a language we could barely speak.”

we are not beasts

emo / metalcore / beats / son jarocho
G major · 6/8 · 88 BPM · dynamic · angry · hopeful

On St. Patrick’s Day 1973, Denver police raided the Crusade for Justice, and 20-year-old Luis “Junior” Martínez (dancer, teacher, Black Beret, and Gio’s tío) was shot dead in an alley. The chorus comes from words written on the bombed-out building: we are not beasts, and we do not intend to be beaten. It ends in son jarocho so Junior can dance again over the graves of his forgotten oppressors.

bio

short

losiento is the project of Chicano songwriter and producer Gio Lobato, raised in West Denver and now living in el Valle de Toluca, México. The name comes from a misunderstanding. Early on, he asked his future wife how she knew he was the one. “No lo sé, lo siento,” she said. He heard “I don’t know, I’m sorry.” She meant “I don’t know it, I feel it.” The music comes from that feeling. It’s folk, electronica, soul, and rock in Spanglish, about family, barrio, love, and memory. His debut album, west denver (2026), is for the people who raised him, and he wrote, produced, mixed, and mastered it in his home studio.

When Gio Lobato moved from Denver to Mexico and fell in love, he asked the woman who would become his wife how she knew he was the one. “No lo sé, lo siento,” she answered. Still getting his Spanish back, he heard “I don’t know, I’m sorry.” What she meant was “I don’t know it, I feel it.” The misunderstanding stuck with him. Sweet things come with the bitter ones, and lo siento isn’t only an apology. It means you feel something. losiento is the music he feels.

He grew up Chicano in West Denver, riding to the Northside with his dad to Earth, Wind & Fire and Tower of Power, then finding his own way through the emo of The Wonder Years, the electronica of Porter Robinson, the folk of Lord Huron, and the hip hop of El-P. A decade composing music for advertising, film, and TV (work recognized with a Cannes Lions Grand Prix and an Emmy) gave him a cinematic ear. losiento began as love songs to his wife and Mexico, the country that welcomed him home in a way he only ever felt in Denver… a place to love, experience, and learn.

His debut album, west denver (2026), is about the people of that city: the friends and neighbors in “holy water,” his grandmother’s casa in “northside with you,” and his tío Luis “Junior” Martínez, killed in the 1973 Denver police crackdown on Chicano activism, in “we are not beasts.” Lobato wrote, performed, produced, engineered, mixed, and mastered every track in his home studio in el Estado de México.

The album is accompanied by lugar (lugar.noselosien.to), a browser piece that composes a new ambient song live from your location, weather, and sky, built from samples of the record.
